Cabaret Convention "The Most Important Cabaret Event of the Year" - American Way Magazine
The Mabel Mercer Foundation presents its flagship Cabaret Convention showcases around the country and abroad. Since its inception in 1989, the Convention has hosted more than a thousand performers, all of whom work in their own ways to keep alive the tradition of cabaret. (Among those who have participated in these extraordinary concerts are Michael Feinstein, Jack Jones, Andrea Marcovicci, Julie Wilson, Steve Ross, Margaret Whiting, Christine Andreas, Maureen McGovern, Liliane Montevecchi, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Ann Hampton Callaway, Gregory Generet, Karen Akers, Jeff Harnar, Wesla Whitfield, Tony DeSare, Nellie McKay, Paula West, Klea Blackhurst, and Barbara Carroll.) The Foundation continues to keep many tickets for each performance priced at an incredible $25 per seat plus outreach to senior centers and complimentary tickets to high schools in the greater New York area. Our goal is to provide universal access to these incomparable entertainers and their timeless repertoire.
EVENT UPDATE: The annual Adela & Larry Elow American Songbook High School Competition will be virtual this year. We'll share the winning performances in an upcoming edition of Spotlight.
The Adela & Larry Elow Teenager Endowment Fund administered by The Mabel Mercer Foundation was created specifically to encourage teenagers to learn and perform The Great American Songbook, as composed between the years 1900-1970. Participants are nominated from pupils who attend New York City public performing arts high schools which require auditions before enrolling students. The singers compete for cash awards: a $2,500 first prize, a $1,500 second prize, and a $1,000 third prize. The first prize winner of will also be invited to appear during the annual Mabel Mercer Foundation Cabaret Convention. Please note there is a $20 cover plus a $20 minimum per person for this show.
